“Happiness, not in another place but this place…not for another hour, but this hour.”
Walt Whitman
I am not ready to let go of summer. I know. I know. Bloggers everywhere are turning to Fall topics. And I am looking forward to fall also. I am beginning to make plans for fall decor and menu items.
BUT…IT’S STILL SUMMER and I want to wring every last drop of sunny summer pleasure out of this season before turning to fall! I am not ready to say farewell to summer yet! So this week I changed out my dining room table decor and created another summertime table.
I started with this Threshold table runner that was purchased a few years ago. When I decided to buy it I was attracted to the beautiful watercolor floral print and the colors. I still love them and think they just seem so perfect for summertime.
I pulled out the glass lanterns from World Market that were used on our Cinco de Mayo table. They hold three small bunches of grocery store mums in lemony yellow and lime green and are a happy summery centerpiece in the same color palette as the runner.
Rattan chargers from World Market are the foundation of each place setting. The dinner and salad plates, which were purchased at Home Goods several years ago, have a raised pattern of branches and flying birds on the rims.
The napkins are the same pattern as the runner. I used an envelope fold. Directions for making this fold can be found here.
(Note: Because the napkin fabric is only printed on one side, I had to fold the napkins inside out so that the final fold would have the “pretty side” showing.)
It’s an uncomplicated table setting. I think summertime should be uncomplicated. And I am still enjoying summer. Just as Walt Whitman advised, I am living in the moment, finding my happiness “in this place and this hour.”
How about you? Are you still enjoying the tail end of the summer, or have you already mentally moved into autumn?

A perfect summer table setting. Very cheery. I, too, am still enjoying summer. Living in the moment. I love fall but know what follows it here in Colorado.

I think as I get older I am more inclined to live in the moment. I don’t want to rush through the rest of my life. When I was younger, at times I think I failed to enjoy the present always thinking about what was coming.
